Today we began to sing these versions of the Gradual and Tract.
Another step forward.
Singing every Sunday, it is necessary to have a system in place that is manageable for the choir. Gradually, we have become more proficient, so we can do more.
Singing the Propers on Sundays eleven months of the year is not so easy after all.
Alongside various chants appropriate to the Season - see Glasgow if you need ideas for Lent - and with the help of the CMAA and the brilliant Corpus Christi Watershed, it is possible.
We frequently use these at the EF Mass at Lancaster Cathedral (eg we did today for the Gradual and Tract). However, my preference is for the chants from the Liber when we can: much more authentic, and better for the Schola to learn
ReplyDeleteFor us these represent progress from the Rossini Propers towards a more 'authentic' rendition of the propers. It is not possible for us to learn all of the propers for every Sunday of the year at present. However, we have learnt a great deal of repertoire in the last few years and the pace at which we are adding new pieces is quickening all the time.
